Thanks, Frank. As a Leo, my alter ego has always been the lioness. Loved going on safari in Kenya and meeting several, especially one guarding her kill.
This is wonderful Sarah, you have captured her spirit and energy here and I especially love ‘her lolling with her belly full – her soft, fecund hrumphing, nuzzling, arching’
We tend to forget the females are the real hunters & killers–the males primp and preen, napping, mating, fighting, and demanding their share of the kill.
Just take all those good and bad traits of the Leo to heart. She’ll undoubtedly display them all. We’re a proud lot, but I wouldn’t trade my sign for any other!
Wonderful, Sarah! I’m a Leo and I love all things feline. I especially love the ‘poundinghearted chase’, ‘soft, fecund hrumphing’ and ‘nuzzling, arching’.
I liked this phrase: “poundinghearted chase” and the “lolling”.

I love this lioness… a lovely way to describe it, that softness behind the kill… beware.

Thanks, Bjorn. She’s capable of both, of course. 🙂

Love the way you made your lioness soft and lithe despite the violence of her kill. 😊

I so enjoyed this poem. The violent lioness, the soft lioness, the guarding lioness. I truly love the big cats. Your poem does them justice.

Beautiful words of admiration, acceptance Sarah. Predator she may be, but to survive, she must be.

Thanks, Anna. Yes, it’s not pretty, but predator/prey has its own logic and necessity.

I love the way you made the ferocious animal look soft and simply following her hunger.

Thanks so much. Deep down, I think following hungers is what we all do, though not as directly as a lioness…

I can almost smell her animal scent from here. Great capturing of power and strength. I’d loll a bit if I was a lion.

They really do lolling well. And stretch and even purr in a rumbling kind of way. I love watching them. Thanks for reading, Sarah.
